Q. How do I make a booking?
A. Phone or e-mail me. If you e-mail please tell me the date you're thinking of, the number in your party, what you'd like to do and provide a contact phone number. I don't require a deposit, but you will need to confirm by phone the evening before.
Q. There are only 2 of us, will there be other passengers?
A. No.... I only take out private groups... it is like having your own boat ... but with a skipper.
Q. Do you have age restrictions?
A. I cannot take babies or very young children - the smallest life jackets I have fit a child of 20kg upwards. If there is an elderly person or someone who may have mobility issues in your group, please contact me in the first instance. Getting on and off the boat is relatively easy but does require some step ups.
Q. What clothes should we bring?
A. That depends on the weather forecast and you will know more when you phone the evening before your trip but essentially you will need a non slip pair of shoes (High heels are not allowed!) and a waterproof coat in case the weather turns wet. Don't forget your camera! However, PLEASE don't bring too much!! I have found recently that groups of 5-6 people arrive and each person has a bulging rucksack - there simply is not the room for so much luggage!!
Q. Can we bring drinks with us?
A. Yes .... to a point! Alcohol and the sea simply don't mix! So perhaps you want a cruise and to bring a bottle of wine to enjoy... fine. If you're out for a whole days fishing, happy for you to bring a couple of cans to have with your sandwiches.. but if your party turns up with a 48 cans of lager, (or an obviously excessive amount) then we won't be going anywhere. I'm afraid I don't do "booze cruises!"
Q. Can we go out at Dawn?
A Yes... depending on tides.
Q. Will we see Whales & the Dolphins?
A. Whales are seasonal visitors to the Moray Firth and are most commonly seen in June & July. The Dolphins are resident all year round and so are seen quite frequently, but they do range widely throughout the firth. Please note: There is no guarantee of seeing whales or dolphins on a specific day or at a specific time.
Q. Fishing - Can we keep what we catch?
A. Yes... to a point and, if we've had a good day, the skipper is always grateful for the odd fish to take home!!
I have a large cool box for fish storage, so we can keep your catch in as fresh a condition as possible. I will also be happy to clean and/or fillet your fish for you on the way back to harbour so you can enjoy them utterly fresh for supper that night or pop them in the deep freeze. There is simply nothing better than a really fresh fish! If you are intending to fish, please bring a small cool box if you have one; If you don't have one I can usually provide some ice and plastic bags and newspaper which will keep your fish cool until you get home.
However, please note. I insist on the use of barbless hooks on all my tackle which means that undersized fish can usually be easily released - and small children don't need a trip to casualty if they get a hook in their finger!! This method also means that you can catch what you can enjoy and allow surplus fish to be returned alive.
